Jacquelyn Litt received her PhD in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania. She has taught at Allegheny College and Iowa State University, and is currently Chair of the Department of Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Missouri.

For her first book, Medicalized Motherhood: Perspectives from the Lives of African-American and Jewish Women (Rutgers University Press), she won an award for outstanding scholarship on race, class, and gender from the American Sociological Association. Her second book, Global Dimensions of Gender and Carework (Stanford University Press), co-authored with Mary Zimmerman and Christine Bose, is used widely in classes in sociology and women's studies.

Litt is currently principal investigator for Mizzou ADVANCE, an $499,000 University of Missouri grant to increase the representation and advancement of women in science, technology, engineering, and math. She is currently Co-Chair of the "Social Science Research Council Network on Persons Displaced by Katrina," and is working on a new monograph, Women of Katrina: Crossing Borders, Weaving Networks, and Taking Care. Litt was also granted the "Distinguished Faculty Award" for exemplary contribution toward gender equity in education by the American Association of University Women (Iowa chapter), and "Early Excellence in Teaching" and "Master Teacher in Multicultural Education" awards, both from Iowa State University.
