An advanced study of the role of women in religion, focusing on the methods of determining the significance of gender in religious life, sacred texts, symbols, rituals, and/or beliefs. The topic of women and religion will be examined through the lens of religious studies and folklore. We will study the roles of women and their expressive religious practices in Christianity and Native American traditions. Some of the topics will include women's altars, sermons, testimonies, rituals, storytelling, and theologies.
